Photograph Lewis Austin Doane

Lewis Austin Doane (1844-1921) son of Austin and Hannah Doane, husband of Jennie Upton (1852-1929) in a formal portrait taken in Massachusetts, probably in the 1890s. The Doanes farmed on Wulfert Point on Sanibel, and also ran the post office established there in 1897. Originally digitized by Southwest Florida Library Network as part of the Digitizing Southwest Florida Heritage Project and PALMM Project, 2004 in collaboration with the Sanibel Public Library. Project was funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services.
